The family of the late Terry Frazier Sr. of Dunkirk is pleased to announce that Jack Forster of Fredonia and Leionna Thomas of Dunkirk are the first to be awarded the Terry Frazier Sr. No One Fights Alone Scholarship. The scholarship, established in 2020 in memory of Terry Frazier Sr., is available to graduating seniors from Dunkirk and Fredonia High Schools planning to attend college or a trade school whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Special consideration is given to those who have participated in volunteer services related to cancer or are planning a career related to cancer research. The scholarship includes a monetary award as well as care packages for the students throughout their educational careers.
Forster, a 2021 graduate of Fredonia High School, has participated in many efforts to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment. Jack was a participant in the Pink the Rink and Relay for Life (JCC and SUNY Fredonia) fundraisers. Jack also baked and sold cookies to raise funds for breast cancer research and plans to host a bingo night to raise money for teachers with cancer diagnoses. Forster will be attending the University of South Carolina Honors College in the fall of 2020.
Thomas, a 2021 graduate of Dunkirk High School, has spent time volunteering and fundraising for cancer research and treatment, directing funds to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, making donations to fund leukemia research, and volunteering her time visiting cancer patients in the Chautauqua County Nursing Home and local hospitals. Thomas will be attending Jamestown Community College for nursing in the fall of 2020.
The family of Terry Frazier Sr. wishes to thank friends, family, and the community for contributing nearly $3,000 to the scholarship fund through a Facebook fundraiser in late July in celebration of Terry’s 70th birthday. Contributions to the Terry Frazier Sr. No One Fights Alone Scholarship can be made in any amount, at any time at nccfoundation.org/frazier-scholarship or by check to Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, 212 Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
